LAKEWOOD — Two people were shot this morning in Lakewood, police spokesman Steve Davis said.
The incident happened about 9:50 a.m. at the 12th Avenue Apartments, 7755 W. 12th Ave.
A man and woman were taken to a local hospital. The woman had a gunshot wound in the leg, and the man had an abrasion on his head, Davis said. More details on the victims were not immediately available.
Witnesses told police a man was seen leaving the apartment after the shooting. He got in a pickup truck driven by another man, and they drove away.
Lakewood Police have the three-story brick building taped off, with patrol cars and investigators at the scene.
Neighbor DeAnn Orlicki, 20, lives in the apartment across the hall from the shooting.
She said she heard what she thought was a door slamming, but then she heard a woman screaming.
When she opened the door, she saw blood in the hallway.
“It’s horrible. I don’t want to be here,” Orlicki said as she cried while recounting what happened.
She has a 5-month-old girl, Nicolette. They have lived in the apartments since February, and Orlicki says she is now afraid to be there.
“I just want to care of her,” Orlicki said of Nicolette. “Is a bullet going to ricochet and hit my daughter?”
Davis agreed that gunfire in apartments can be dangerous for neighbors:
“Whenever you have a gun going off in an apartment, it always has the potential to go into another apartment.”
