Billy Bitter got his first Major League Lacrosse goal — and first hat trick — as the Denver Outlaws came from behind to defeat the Long Island Lizards 11-10 on Friday night in Hempstead, N.Y.
The Outlaws trailed 9-6 early in the fourth period when Bitter, playing in just his second professional game, squeaked a bouncer past Lizards goalkeeper Drew Adams at the 3:19 mark and added another a minute later. After a Lizards goal to take a 10-8 lead, Denver scored the final three goals, an even-strength tally from Bill McGlone and man-up scores from Brendan Mundorf and Drew Westervelt.
Westervelt’s game-winner with 52 seconds left came off a rebound after Adams blocked Westervelt’s first shot.
Wyoming’s Scheffler granted medical hardship.
University of Wyoming women’s basketball coach Joe Legerski said guard Kristen Scheffler has been granted a medical hardship for the 2010-11 season.
Legerski said that means Scheffler will have two years of eligibility remaining at Wyoming.
The 5-foot-10 guard from Lovell, Wyo., played in six games before an injury sidelined her for the remainder of the season. She was averaging 4.8 points and 1.5 rebounds. In her first two years with the Cowgirls, she averaged 8.6 points and two rebounds.

Jim Strickland and Warren Vickers tied their own tournament record with a three-round total of 17-under-par 199 to win their fourth Mid-Am division title at the Charlie Coe Invitational at Castle Pines Golf Club.
Strickland and Vickers, both of Scottsdale, Ariz., shot a 4-under 68 in the final round to beat Charles Williams and Chris Forbes of Houston and Katy, Texas, who shot a 67, by two strokes.
In the Senior-Am division, Jim Crane and Hunter Nelson of Houston fired an 8-under 64 to post a 201, three strokes better than Denny Alexander of Fort Worth, Texas, and Gary Hardin of La Quinta, Calif.
The tournament is a tribute to Charlie Coe, a two-time U.S. Amateur champion, seven-time Walker Cup player and 19-time Masters participant.
