A 53-year-old man was rescued this afternoon after he crashed paragliding near Golden.
At 12:40 p.m., officials received a call about a downed paraglider just under the giant letter “M” on Mt. Zion near Golden, said Julie Brooks, spokeswoman for the Golden Fire Department.
The man’s lower extremity was injured and he was unable to walk down the mountain. He crashed about 100 yards above tte bottom portion of the road that wraps around the mountain.
It took rescue crews about an hour to lower the man, whose identity was not released, down the side of the mountain to an awaiting ambulance.
The man was conscious through out the rescue.
Foothills Fire Department, Highlands Rescue Team, AMR, Genesee Fire and Rescue, the Colorado School of Mines and park rangers also assisted in the rescue.
