GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler says he had a close call with a wrong-way driver while on road trip to Grand Junction.

The Daily Sentinel reports Gessler says he had to swing into the right lane to avoid a car traveling the wrong way on Interstate 70 between Rifle and Glenwood Springs.

Gessler says he called 911 to report the driver.

Colorado State Patrol spokeswoman Heather Cobler says three troopers were dispatched and found a man in a car matching Gessler’s description driving in the correct lane a few miles away. The driver was cited and released.

The driver’s name was not immediately available.
