BOULDER, Colo.—A 26-year-old man has been sentenced to nine years in prison for assaulting a woman walking along a trail in Boulder.

The Daily Camera reports that Michael Gonzales-Davis was also sentenced Friday to five years of mandatory parole. He pleaded guilty in March to menacing, second-degree burglary and two counts of third-degree assault.

Police say Gonzales-Davis grabbed Ann Hodel from behind, punched her in the face and tried to rip off her shorts in the attack last year. The Associated Press doesn’t usually identify sexual assault victims, but the woman told the Camera she wanted her name used to show support for other victims.

Gonzales-Davis was also accused of assaulting two family members and burglary. The judge says she weighed his need for mental health treatment against public safety concerns.
