Bomb squad investigators in Fort Collins examined the remnants of a suspicious package that security staff discovered Sunday morning at the Front Range Village shopping center.
The small package sitting in a dumpster at 2720 Council Tree Avenue had wires poking out and a possible fuse showing, according to Fort Collins Police Sgt. Jon Holsten.
After relocating the package to a cordoned off parking lot, investigators blasted it with high pressure water charge, he said.
“At this point, it looks like it has been disabled, whatever it is,” Holsten said.
It’s unclear whether someone threw out an electronic device, intended the package to look like a bomb or actually constructed a bomb — but after disabling it investigators could get close enough to find out, he said.
Security staff reported the package around 9:43 a.m.
Businesses in the shopping center remained open and the package prompted no evacuations.
The Northern Colorado Bomb Squad was on scene as well.
