The field for the U.S. Women’s Open in July at the Broadmoor will include golfers as young as 12 years old and as old as 55, it was announced today.
The USGA posted the field for the U.S. Women’s Open, which is July 7-10 in Colorado Springs, and 12-year-old Mariel Galdiano of Hawaii will be included along with two-time Open champion Betsy King.
King, 55, who won back-to-back championships in 1989-90, will play in her 30th Open. She is one of 74 players who earned berths from sectional qualifiers.
Those spots also include 12-year-old Galdiano and Anya Sarai Alvarez of Tulsa, Okla., who qualified at the The Broadmoor on Sunday.
The other 82 spots were filled by exempt players, including defending champ Paula Creamer and Michelle Wie.
There are two other berths still open for exempt players who earn spots in two LPGA Tour events before the Open. If those tournaments are won by players who are already exempt, the spots will be filled by alternates.
