A Fort Collins police officer was cited with careless driving resulting in injury this week for allegedly speeding before he hit a bicyclist two weeks ago.
Officer Todd Brubaker was going between 40 and 45 mph in a 30-mph zone before he hit Thomas Wagner about 2 a.m. on May 24 in the intersection of Elizabeth and Remington streets, an internal investigation found.
Wagner, 21, was cited for riding without a headlight or operable brakes, both traffic infractions. He was not wearing a helmet and sustained serious injuries in the accident, police said.
Brubaker, an 11-year veteran, was charged with a misdemeanor, as well. He has been on paid leave since the crash.
