A bank-robbery suspect was busted Thursday morning when a dye pack exploded as a police officer closed in.

The incident happened about 11:30 a.m. when a Key Bank at 100 Broadway was held up, said Sonny Jackson, a Denver Police Department spokesman.

A Denver police officer was driving in the area when he was flagged down by a pedestrian who alerted him to the fleeing robbery suspect, Jackson said.

The officer pursued the suspect, who ran into an alley and a dye pack exploded, Jackson said. The suspect is in custody. No one was injured.

“It was good police work,” Jackson said.
