A motorcycle driver died in a traffic crash Thursday night in Aurora.

Ronald Allen, 28, of Aurora, died after suffering severe injuries in a collision with a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra, according to an Aurora Police Department media release.

The fatal crash happened at about 9:50 p.m. on south Gun Club Road south of East Jewell Avenue, police said.

Allen was driving a red 1998 Honda CBR 1000 motorcycle southbound when he lost control of the motorcycle causing it to go down and slide into the side of the car.

The driver of the car had pulled off to the side of the road and was pulling back into the roadway when the bike Allen was driving was approaching. Allen reacted to the car and lost control of the motorcycle, police said, laying it down.

Witnesses told investigators that “the motorcycle may have been speeding,” the release said.

An investigation is ongoing and police will try to determine whether excessive speed, or other factors, contributed to the crash. Allen, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene.
