A bird that experts say has only four verified sightings in Weld County in more than 100 years of records may be building a nest in Glenmere Park.

The yellow-crowned night heron looks like the black-crowned night herons already out nesting at Glenmere, 14th Avenue and 19th Street, along with the snowy and cattle egrets, but it has yellow feathers on its head, not black.

The last recorded sighting in Weld was in 2005 at Banner Lakes State Wildlife Area. The first recorded sighting in Weld was in 1992. There are only 40 recorded sightings for the whole state, said Jerry Petrosky, president of the Colorado Birding Society.
