LONGMONT — A falling chunk of ice punched a 6-inch hole in a Longmont woman’s roof Thursday afternoon, the Times-Call newspaper reported. Susan Zinga, who lives at 20 Cambridge Circle, said no one was hurt but it caught her off-guard.

Vance Brand Municipal Airport manager Tim Barth said the most likely culprit was “blue ice” from a passenger plane out of Denver International Airport. Sometimes a plane’s lavatory has a leak, he said, causing ice to form on the outside of the plane, which can come loose as the plane begins to descend.
