You’ll have to catch “The Hangover Part II” in theaters if you want to see the copyright-infringing tattoo on Ed Helms the way it was meant to be seen.
After a tattoo artist sued Warner Bros. for using a copyrighted face tattoo design given to Mike Tyson, the studio says it will digitally alter the tattoo for DVD.
Ed Helms’ character wore the face tattoo after a wild night in which he and his entourage blanked out.
Warner Bros recently filed documents saying, “Warner Bros. does not intend to make any use of the allegedly infringing tattoo after the film ends its run in the theaters because Warner Bros. will digitally alter the film to substitute a different tattoo on Ed Helms’s face.”
In April, S. Victor Whitmill sued the studio claiming copyright infringement on using the tribal face tattoo he gave Mike back in 2003.
A judge refused to stop the movie’s release, but Whitmill threatened to take the case to trial, TMZ reports.
Instead, Warner Bros. says they will alter the tattoo.
