The Longmont Police Department traffic investigation unit was investigating two different crashes Thursday night.

A man who was suspected of stealing items from Home Depot in Firestone was seriously injured when he rolled his vehicle near Ninth Avenue and Pace Street at about 5:57 p.m., according to police Cmdr. Jeff Satur.

Weld County Sheriff’s Office deputies were following the man, but it’s not known how fast they were going. Longmont police are investigating the crash, while Firestone police will be handling the theft, Satur said.

A second serious crash occurred at about 9:30 p.m. when a car hit a man crossing Grand Avenue at Busch Street in the Southmoor Park area of Longmont, seriously injuring the pedestrian.

A Mazda driver was going west on Grand when the pedestrian, who was crossing from north to south, was struck Satur said.
