COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—A 19-year-old man has been convicted of reckless manslaughter in the fatal shooting of a tire store employee after a confrontation in the El Paso County store’s parking lot.

The Gazette reports that a jury convicted Logan McClelland Friday in the death of 50-year-old Bradley Blehm last August in Monument. The Park County man was charged with first-degree murder.

McClelland faces two to six years in prison when he’s sentenced Aug. 17, but could get 12 years if the judge decides there are aggravating circumstances.

The defense attorney argued McClelland was protecting his father, whom Blehm reportedly confronted. Investigators say Blehm had been drinking and was told to go home.

Prosecutors said McClelland didn’t have to shoot.
