A Longmont police investigation into a toddler’s ingestion of medical marijuana is just about wrapped up and the case will be presented to prosecutors.
The incident happened on June 2 in a home where a resident has a medical-marijuana license, Cmdr. Jeff Satur of the Longmont Police Department said Saturday.
The child, an 11-month-old girl, was with her 17-year-old mother visiting the home and it is believed that the child ingested marijuana there, Satur said.
The child, who was lethargic, was taken to Longmont United Hospital in serious condition. She was transferred to Children’s Hospital in Aurora where her condition improved, and she was released the next day.
The girl has recovered and is with her mother and grandmother, who live in Boulder, Satur said.
“This could have just as easily been a kid getting hold of prescription oxycontin or some other prescription drug,” Satur said. “The message is if you have prescription medicines around you need to make sure that kids don’t have access to it.”
Satur said police investigators will meet with the girl’s mother again and will then meet with the Boulder district attorney’s office to determine if any charges will be filed.
