Cook-off spices up camping.
Bonny Lake State Park in Idalia is hosting its annual Dutch Oven & Chili Cook-off 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Cook-off categories include: main dish, side dish (vegetable), breads, dessert, wild game/fish, chili and youth chefs (for chefs under 16 years old). Barbecue cook-off in Castle Rock.
The Rocky Mountain Freedom Festival, July 1-3 in Castle Rock, will feature a Kansas City BBQ Society-sanctioned cook-off. This event will draw teams from Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, among others. The cook-off also will include a carnival, live music and fireworks.
Little Britches Rodeo in Cedaredge.
The Little Britches Rodeo will take place July 8-10 in Cedaredge. Hundreds of 5- to 18-year-olds compete for prizes, cash and the title of being the best. At noon on July 9, rodeo participants will put on a parade through the middle of town.
Gunnison’s annual Cattlemen’s Days.
The 111th annual Cattlemen’s Days in Gunnison will be July 8-17. The event features a county fair, parade, live music and dancing, a horse show, cowboy poetry, horse races and rodeo events. Activities are spread throughout the festival’s 10 days, with rodeos scheduled for the evenings of July 14-16.
