Getting your player ready...

This year’s 63rd FIBArk festival gets underway this week with the traditional ruckus of whitewater paddlers gathering for the annual wet celebration.

With the Arkansas River especially swollen this year, watch for records to drop in Sunday’s 25.7-mile downriver sprint from Salida to Cotopaxi. If you can make it, Thursday morning’s gladiator paddle- cross down the Ark’s super burly Pine Creek rapid will deliver thrills and spectacular spills.

(We’re hearing rumors they might move the venue with the extra juice worrying race organizers.)

Saturday’s freestyle kayak championships will include — for the first time — two categories for experts and pro, allowing skilled amateurs a shot at glory without having to battle veteran world champions.
