MONTROSE, Colo.—A district court judge has sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for killing a 14-month-old child.
Judge Jeff Herron told 24-year-old Daniel Ryan that there was no excuse for the battering death of Hailey Rocha.
The sentence ended an emotional hearing, during which some of the Montrose infant’s family members walked out.
The Montrose Daily Press says protesters marched in front of the justice center to protest a plea agreement that sent Ryan to prison for 20 years.
Authorities say Ryan babysitting the girl and lost his temper when she would not stop crying.
