John Litchfield, founder of the Red Onion restaurant and one of the men who helped transform Aspen into a destination ski resort, died last Friday evening at a Denver nursing home. He was 93.

A member of the 10th Mountain Division during World War II, Litchfield was also inducted into the state skiing hall of fame in Colorado and Maine, as well as the national hall.
