BOULDER, Colo.—The City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks is expanding its trail fee program to several popular trails near the city.

The city plans to charge a $5 per day fee for parking at South Mesa, Doudy Draw and Flatirons Vista trailheads. The fee applies to non-county residents.

A similar program has been in effect for more than 20 years at trailheads on Flagstaff Mountain.

Visitor services manager Jim Reeder says it is a pilot program that will be reviewed later this year.

Reeder said the money will be used to maintain trails and future enhancements.
