WHEAT RIDGE — Customers tried to stop a robber with an assault rifle from leaving a Wheat Ridge cellphone store Thursday, but the man shot through the glass door and made his escape.
“We’re really lucky no one was injured or killed,” said Wheat Ridge police spokeswoman Lisa Stigall.
The man robbed the Advantage Wireless store in the Safeway shopping center at 3914 Wads worth Blvd. about 11:30 a.m.
As he tried to leave, two people held the door to keep him inside. A scuffle ensued, and a woman was hit in the head with the gun. She was treated by paramedics at the store but wasn’t seriously hurt, Stigall said. The man then used his military-style M-15 rifle to shoot out the glass door.
Anyone who has information about the man’s identity and whereabouts can call Wheat Ridge police at 303-237-2220.
