University of Colorado football coach Jon Embree announced on Thursday the signing of 290-pound center Brad Cotner, a transfer from Ventura Community College in California.
The 6-foot-2 Cotner was a redshirt freshman at the junior college last year. He played in high school at Westlake in Thousand Oaks, Calif. He has four years of eligibility remaining.
Embree also announced two previously reported signings: Austin Vincent, a 6-foot-2 wide receiver from DeSoto, Texas; and D.D. Goodson, a 5-foot-7 running back and returner from Lamar Consolidated High in Rosenberg, Texas.
Also, the Daily Camera reported Thursday that senior center Mike Iltis is leaving the team before the season. He told Embree this week he would not return. Iltis had been rehabbing a repaired knee.
Embree said all three had situations that made them still available and it was CU’s “good fortune to get them . . . They’re all good football players who have a chance to help us sooner rather than later. They bring some speed and ball skills to the positions that they each play.”
Choi adds another trophy to collection.
Seung Ha Choi has another trophy for her case: The golfer from Aurora can add the Colorado Women’s Golf Association Junior Match Play Championship title to her 5A high school championship last month.
Choi, representing Meadow Hills Golf Club, defeated Mikayla Tatman of Twin Peaks G.C. 2 and 1 on Thursday at the Golf Course at Heather Ridge in Aurora to win the championship.
• John Ahern of Bear Creek Golf Club, the runner-up in last year’s Colorado Golf Association Junior Match Play Championship, will play for the title again after winning quarterfinal and semifinal matches Thursday at King’s Deer G.C. in Monument.
Ahern will face Ryan Pettegrew of Lone Tree Golf Club and Highlands Ranch H.S., an alternate who was among the last players to make the field, in today’s 36-hole final.
