Who: Ian Coppell of Grand Lake
Where: Santa’s Village, Napapiiri
Best meal: Reindeer is a common meat in Lapland, and can be prepared many different ways. It is best not to order a “well-done” steak, as the meat is relatively dry. The Nili Restaurant is an excellent place to sample reindeer.
Best deal: Restaurants and hotel food can be quite expensive, so try to do a supermarket trip in the town of Rovaniemi to stock up on necessary items, especially if you stay in a cabin in the forest.
Best time to go: A family trip before or after Christmas to see Santa is a fabulous experience for younger family members.
Best travel tip: A reindeer sleigh ride through the forest to Santa’s Village is magical, and a husky ride is also an exhilarating experience.
