Lefthand Canyon Drive has been reopened after a bicyclist was struck and killed by a dump truck this afternoon, Colorado State Patrol officials said.
Trooper Heather Cobler said the accident occurred at Lefthand Canyon Drive and Olde Stage Road just after noon. Initial reports were that the crash occurred at the intersection with Lee Hill Drive.
A dump truck hauling a trailer with a small excavator hit the cyclist, who was coming down Lefthand, as the truck made a left turn on to Olde Stage, Cobler said. The cyclist was killed.
The Boulder County Coroner has identified the victim as Eugene Philip Howrey, 73, of Boulder.
An autopsy has been scheduled.
