DENVER—The mother of a child killed when she was run over by a van in an apartment-complex parking lot has been charged with child abuse resulting in death.
Aurora police say 30-year-old Karen Charlene Pena was being held Thursday on $50,000 bail in the death of her daughter.
Pena told police she was not watching her children at the time but had told them to remain in a gated area.
Police say 22-month-old Laniece Fletcher was killed last month when she was run over by a van in the parking lot of her apartment complex.
The driver of the van has not been charged.
