About 50 homes were evacuated for a time in Eagle County today after a high-pressure gas line was cut.
At about 10 a.m., construction crews cut into a 6 inch high-pressure gas line while installing a new pipeline, said Charles Moore, fire chief for the Eagle River Fire Protection District.
The high volume of gas forced the evacuation of homes in Avon and Edwards near Colorado 6. Bicyclists and pedestrians were not allowed in the area and traffic on Highway 6 was re-routed to Interstate 70, Moore said.
At 1:40 p.m., fire crews stopped the leak, the highway was opened and residents were allowed back inside their homes.
No injuries were reported.
