Brooklyn’s four-day Northside Festival kicked off its third year with hundreds of rising indie bands last weekend in the Williamsburg neighborhood of the borough. Indie-rock mainstays Guided By Voices and Beirut anchored the festival alongside newer acts like Surfer Blood, Sharon Van Etten, Wavves, Deer Tick (as Deervana), Titus Andronicus, Twin Sister and Javelin.
With a rainy first day, the rest of the weekend cleared up to a welcomed summer sun, with Brookynites lounging in the grass fields of McCarren Park surrounding the main stage. Of the shows witnessed, the performances were on point and what you would expect without much flair. The only exception being the intoxicatingly danceable Grouplove set at Brooklyn Bowl.
