DENVER—Sen. Mark Udall has introduced legislation to help states build and maintain safe shooting ranges.

Udall says people need accessible ranges for hunters and marksmen.

Under current law, an excise tax is collected on sporting equipment and ammunition for wildlife restoration and hunter education.

Udall’s legislation would increase the amount of federal funds that states can use from 75 percent to 90 percent to improve or build a public target range.
