AURORA — Aurora police are warning residents to secure their homes at night after a man or teen entered a home early Thursday and attempted to sexually assault a little girl.

The incident happened just before 6 a.m. in northwest Aurora. Police would not give a more specific address.

According to police spokesman Bob Friel, the intruder entered through an open window. The parents of a sleeping 4-year-old girl heard noises coming from her bedroom.

When the parents went to check on her, they found the intruder standing over her bed. He ran away after they spotted him.

The suspect is still at large. Police describe him as either Hispanic or white, 15 to 19 years old and between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall.

Friel said the intruder may have sexually assaulted the girl, who was taken to a hospital. She will undergo more interviews with police today.

Police are encouraging residents to lock all their windows at night and make sure everything is secure. Carlos Illescas, The Denver Post
