One of Dark Star Orchestra’s greatest accomplishments, in addition to faithfully re-creating hundreds of Grateful Dead shows over the years, is emulating its idols so well that Dead members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh picked up Dark Star’s John Kadlecik to play in their band Furthur. After all, who’s better at covering the songs than a band devoting its career to it? Dark Star returns to the Fillmore Auditorium Oct. 8, with tickets on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($25, )
The Motet will also cover the Dead at its Oct. 29 Ogden Theatre show — just in case Dark Star’s Fillmore show didn’t scratch your itch. ($25-$30). Also announced for the Ogden: British synth-pop duo Erasure (Sept. 27, $32.50-$35) and City and Colour, the singer-songwriter project of Alexisonfire leader Dallas Green (Nov. 12, $25-$30). All tickets are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday via Ticketmaster.
Rascal Flatts, like fellow pop-country stars Tim McGraw and Sugarland, were announced for a Comfort Dental Amphitheatre show back in March, but only recently have single tickets been available outside of the “Country Megaticket” package. Passes to the group’s Sept. 10 “Flatts Fest” tour stop, with openers Sara Evans and Justin Moore, are on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday. ($25-$65, Ticketmaster)
Winter Park Jazz Festival runs July 23-24 in Hideaway Park of that charming little mountain town just northwest of Denver. The opening night includes the O’Jays, Najee, Alex Bugnon, Nelson Rangell and Dotsero, while July 24 headliner Dave Koz will be joined by Will Downing, Arturo Sandoval and Hot 8 Brass Band. Tickets are on sale. ($35-$45, )
Disco Biscuits will headline the big Saturday show of the first Eco Music Festival in Snowmass Von July 2, with similarly dance-friendly acts RJD2, Perpetual Groove, Leftover Salmon, Tea Leaf Green and Michael Thomas Smith backing up their dual sets. Free and reduced-price shows with smaller bands will also take place the preceding Thursday and Friday. Tickets for the June 30-July 2 festival are $55 through Wednesday. ()
