The 15-year-old son of Commerce City tire shop owner drove a car off a 12-foot service ramp and killed an employee today, police said.
“He drove it up and over the safety barrier and pinned the victim against a wall,” Lt. Dennis Moon said of the 2001 Lincoln LS.
The 27-year-old man died instantly, he said.
Police are investigating whether there might have been a mechanical or safety issue with the ramp.
The victim has not been named. His body was turned over to the Adams County Coroner’s Office, which will release the man’s name Friday, Moon said.
A former employee told 9News most of the shop’s employees are related. He said the teen and the victim had worked there for at least a year.
The death is still under investigation tonight, but “it appears to be an accident,” Moon said.
The teen has not been arrested.
The incident happened about 5 p.m. at the 3 Amigos Tires and Wheels shop at 6100 E. 64th Ave. near Kearney Street.
Records show the property was bought by Jose de Jesus Ochoa in 2008.
A phone message left at the business tonight was not returned.
