The 15-year-old son of a Commerce City tire-shop owner drove a car off a 12-foot service ramp and killed an employee Thursday afternoon, police said.

“He drove it up and over the safety barrier and pinned the victim against a wall,” Lt. Dennis Moon said of the crash involving a 2001 Lincoln LS. The 27-year-old man died instantly, he said.

Police are investigating whether there might have been a mechanical or safety problem with the ramp.

The incident happened at about 5 p.m. at the 3 Amigos Tires and Wheels shop at 6100 E. 64th Ave.

The victim has not been named.

A former employee told 9News most of the shop’s employees are related. He said the teen and the victim had worked there for at least a year.

The death was still under investigation Thursday night, but “it appears to be an accident,” Moon said.
