“Crested Butte Colorado: 60 Scenic Day Hikes” ($24.95, )
Over four summers, authors Anne and Mike Poe did the research for this guide, mapping the trails and shooting the nice photos that accompany each hike. The result is a glossy, well- laid-out book that offers the nitty-gritty — distances, elevation gains and losses, what kind of surface you’ll hike and about how long it should take. Oddly, they give a somewhat superficial explanation of the difficulty ratings, but elaborate extensively on their “scenic” star ratings, but with all of the other informaiton, you can get a good sense of how tough each trek will be. The directions to the trailheads and shuttle information are exceptionally detailed, and the GPS data and topographical maps are well-coordinated. Kyle Wagner
