Jennifer Hudson’s latest single, “No One Gonna Love You,” is modern pop-R&B at its smartest.
“No One Gonna Love You” is a hotly produced track with emotive vocals and potent beats. It sticks in your head and it gets your feet moving. The song is a natural hit — and Hudson deserves it. She plays Jazz Aspen’s June festival on Sunday in the Benedict Music Tent in Aspen. Tickets are $60-$100 for her show.
The R&B star, actress and former “American Idol” is on a roll.
While her 2008 record won a Grammy, this year’s follow-up — the toned down, more focused “I Remember Me” — is a stronger, more coherent effort. From the emotional plea of “Where You At” to the stunning, Alicia Keys-penned “Angel,” the record is a triumphant coming-of-age story — proof that Hudson is the real deal.
Also playing the Aspen festival: Monty Alexander, Raul Midon and Richard Bona tonight, and Sheryl Crow on Saturday.
