CARBONDALE, Colo.—Carbondale trustees are considering a pay-as-you-throw system for trash collection to encourage recycling.

The pay-as-you-throw plan charges customers based on how much they throw away as a means of encouraging recycling.

Trustee Pam Zentmyer told the Glenwood Springs Post Independent she sometimes goes weeks without taking out her trash because she is a dedicated recycler and would save money under the plan.
