David Oliver, Olympic bronze medalist and a Denver East graduate, qualified first in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.08 seconds Friday at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. Jason Richardson finished second (13.15) and Ronnie Ash placed third (13.25). All three runners, associated with Nike, will compete in today’s final.
• The University of Colorado’s Emma Coburn and Shalaya Kipp qualified for Sunday’s final in the 3,000- meter steeplechase. Coburn qualified ninth with a time of 9:59.75, while Kipp finished 12th with a time of 10:02.11. Oregon TC Elite’s Bridge Franek won the event with a time of 9:53.33.
• CU grad Sara Slattery placed 13th in the 5,000- meter run in Friday’s final with a time of 15:54. Molly Huddle, affiliated with Saucony, won the event with a time of 15:10.01.
Cowboys take in upcoming season battles.
Wyoming’s non-conference men’s basketball schedule next season includes hosting a four-team tournament over Thanksgiving weekend. Maryland Eastern Shore, Portland State and Louisiana Tech will participate in the tournament.
The non-conference schedule released Friday has the Pokes playing regional road games at Colorado, Denver, Idaho State and Utah Valley.
Wyoming will open its season under new coach Larry Shyatt on Nov. 5 by hosting CSU-Pueblo in an exhibition game. The Cowboys will open the regular season with a pair of home games against Western State on Nov. 12 and Northern Colorado on Nov. 15.
The Cowboys also host Utah Valley, Bradley, UC-Irvine, Sioux Falls and Idaho State before conference play begins.
Hammon named one of top WNBA players.
Former Colorado State women’s basketball player Becky Hammon was named to a list of 30 finalists to be deemed the top 15 WNBA players of all time.
Hammon was drafted by and played for the New York Liberty from 1999-2006 before being traded to the San Antonio Silver Stars, where she has played since 2007.
In her 13th season, Hammon is currently second in career 3-pointers made with 369 and ninth in career points with 4,651.
