GOLDEN, Colo.—A prize-winning quilt sent to Golden, Colo., to be photographed for the June/July cover of Quilters Newsletter has gone missing.

The quilt by Janet Atkins of Coxsackie, N.Y., vanished after Quilters Newsletter said it shipped it back to her in February. Four months of searching by the magazine and UPS have turned up nothing.

Atkins calls the accident “my worst nightmare.” The colorful quilt was inspired by waterfalls and foliage near her home in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains.

A spokeswoman for UPS told The Denver Post that the company has gone through an exhaustive search. The company has also searched on eBay and other online sites in case someone tried to resell the piece.

Atkins says she received $3,300 in “declared value” but would rather have the quilt.
