A man died and a woman was taken to the hospital this morning after the man drove the wrong direction on West Sixth Avenue and crashed head-on into an SUV.

At 10 a.m., a man driving a silver Chevy Malibu entered Sixth Avenue at Garrison Street and began driving westward in the eastbound lanes, according to the Lakewood Police Department.

The man continued to drive in the wrong direction for about a quarter of a mile before he collided head-on with an eastbound black Jeep Liberty.

The Jeep then crashed into a third vehicle causing minor damage.

The woman driving the Jeep was taken to St. Anthony’s Hospital with minor injuries.

The wrong-way driver, who was also taken to St. Anthony’s, had serious injuries and died several hours later.
