An alert staff member at Children’s Hospital in Aurora discovered contaminated alcohol wipes made by a manufacturer in Wisconsin.
Shanoop and Sandra Kothari say a hospital in Houston used those wipes on their son, who died of an infection.
The link between the wipes and the child’s death led to an investigation into sloppy conditions at a plant that supplies sterile medical products, lax FDA regulation, and a poor system for alerting hospitals and clinics nationwide when contaminated products are discovered.
