Police are investigating after a young woman reported being dragged off the Cherry Creek path and sexually assaulted early Monday morning.

At 1:50 a.m., police received a report of a woman who was walking on the path near the 4300 block of Cherry Creek Drive South, said Victor Ross, chief of the Glendale Police Department.

The woman told police a man grabbed her, dragged her off the bike path and sexually assaulted her in the bushes.

The woman said she did not know the man, Ross said.

Officers are scheduled to speak with the woman this afternoon. Police say they do not have a suspect description at this time.

Glendale police monitor the bike path from Colorado Boulevard east to Forest Street. Ross said this is the first report of a sexual assault on the bike path in his 25 years with the Glendale police.

“Generally speaking it is an extremely safe stretch of the path,” Ross said. “We’ve never had problems like this before.”

In the past, officers have responded to reports of men exposing themselves and some altercations on the bike path, but nothing of this nature.
