Colorado took another step Wednesday toward full compliance with the new federal health care law, naming a nine-member board to oversee a health-insurance exchange that is a key component of the law.
The board members, the majority of whom cannot have “direct affiliation” with the insurance industry, will hire the exchange’s executive director.
Members of the board
Gov. John Hickenlooper’s five appointments were:
Richard Betts of Telluride, a Democrat, owner of ASAP Accounting & Payroll Inc.
Robert Ruiz-Moss of Lone Tree, a Republican, executive with Anthem Blue Cross
Eric Grossman of Englewood, a Democrat, vice president of TriZetto
Elizabeth Soberg of Centennial, unaffiliated, chief executive of UnitedHealthcare of Colorado
Gretchen Hammer of Denver, a Democrat, executive director of the Colorado Coalition for the Medically Underserved
Other members are:
Nathan Wilkes of Arapahoe County, founder and principal consultant, Headstorms Inc., appointed by Senate President Brandon Shaffer, D-Longmont
Dr. Michael Fallon of Denver, an emergency-room physician who was the Republican nominee against U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette, a Democrat, in 2010. Fallon was appointed by Senate Minority Leader Mike Kopp, R-Littleton.
Stephen ErkenBrack of Grand Junction, president of Rocky Mountain Health Plans, appointed by House Speaker Frank McNulty, R-Highlands Ranch
Arnold Salazar of Alamosa, executive director of Colorado Health Partnerships LLC, appointed by House Minority Leader Sal Pace, D-Pueblo
