WASHINGTON — Prosecutors argued in a court filing Wednesday that Andy Pettitte’s wife and former major- league players should be allowed to testify in Roger Clemens’ upcoming trial.
Clemens’ lawyers asked the judge in a filing last week to bar Laura Pettitte, as well as several others who are expected to testify about purported second-hand accounts of Clemens’ use of performance-enhancing drugs, on the basis that their testimony is “hearsay.”
But prosecutors responded by calling Laura Pettitte’s testimony “highly relevant to showing that Mr. Pettitte’s present memory is not mistaken due to the passage of time.”
Prosecutors said several witnesses, including former major-leaguer David Segui and convicted steroids dealer Kirk Radomski, are expected to testify former trainer Brian McNamee told them several years ago he had saved needles he used to inject players with performance-enhancing drugs.

The Mariners also put catcher Chris Gimenez (oblique) on the DL and recalled former Cherry Creek High athlete Josh Bard from the Triple-A affiliate.
Starting catcher Miguel Olivo is day to day because of a sore hamstring.
