Beirut is the eclectic chamber-pop project of Zach Condon, a New Mexico musical prodigy and multi-instrumentalist who might be compared to indie-folk darling Andrew Bird. But Condon’s new album, “The Rip Tide” (slated for an Aug. 30 release) must also hold a lot of mainstream potential because he’s playing some unexpectedly large venues on his fall tour, including the legendary Stubb’s BBQ in Austin, Texas. He stops by Denver’s Fillmore Auditorium on Sept. 28, with tickets on sale at today. ($27.50-$30, )

Devo has been set as the headliner of the first Denver County Fair for weeks now, but the surreal excellence of that may have been lost on some of us. Just to recap: Devo is playing a county fair! In Denver! Of course, the iconic new-wave pranksters are in good company because the event is billed as the progressive version of your average livestock-and-crafts event. The fair runs July 28-31 at the National Western Complex, and Devo plays July 30. Tickets are on sale. ($25-$30, )

Alkaline Trio will bring out the big guns for the Mile High City stop of its 15th-anniversary tour, including fellow pop-punks Smoking Popes and Denver’s own Gamits. Tickets for the July 11 blowout at Summit Music Hall are on sale. ($22-$25, )

Denver After Dark Festival will take over the Larimer Lounge, Meadlowlark and other venues on Aug. 26 with local indie and electronic acts including Pictureplane, Force Publique, Ieungliss, Cacheflowe, Vitamins and many others. Tickets are on sale. ($6-$12, )

Doug Stanhope, an abrasive comedian in the tradition of Lenny Bruce, Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison, has long performed outside the traditional stand-up circuit, so it makes sense he’s coming to Denver’s Oriental Theater on Nov. 4; it’s less restricted than a traditional comedy club. Tickets are on sale. ($25, )
