COLORADO SPRINGS — An El Paso County judge on Thursday sentenced a woman to 27 years in prison in the death of a 7-year-old girl found buried in a crawl space beneath a vacant home.
Monique Lynch had been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Genesis Sims but pleaded guilty to child abuse causing death.
Contractors found Genesis’ body last year. Her father, Hanif Sims, had lived with Lynch in the house in 2008.
Authorities began looking for the couple, and they were arrested in Nevada.
Hanif Sims and Lynch have blamed each other for the death.
The father is scheduled to be tried for first-degree murder in October. Associated Press
