Getting your player ready...

Charlie Blackmon gave himself one heck of a birthday present, hitting his first home run. And yes, the baseball is in his hands. Closer Huston Street pulled a fast one on the Rockies’ PR staff. Edgmer Escalona caught the ball and tossed it to Street, who fired a ball into the stands. But it wasn’t the ball, though the deke was a classic.

“I had to do it. One year in Oakland we had rookies getting their first hit every day. I wasn’t going to miss this chance,” Street said.

Double trouble.

In the sixth inning, Todd Helton moved into 25th place all time with his 542nd double. He’s tied with Hall of Famer Harry Heilman. Helton ranks second in doubles among active players to Ivan Rodriguez (572).
