A former Douglas County teacher was arrested Friday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a student.

Frank Lavoie, 32, was an English teacher at Mountain Vista High School from August 2007 until he resigned in April.

Lavoie is accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old student in 2009, deputies said.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the incident in February. Friday, they secured an arrest warrant and arrested Lavoie without incident.

He is being held on felony charges of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust. His bail was set at $50,000.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about additional victims, or any inappropriate conduct by Lavoie, to call the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Detective Dave Weaver, 303-660-7537.
