All lanes of eastbound Interstate 70 near Genesee have reopened tonight following a semitrailer crash that spilled fruit across the roadway.
The crash near mile marker 256 in Mt. Vernon Canyon closed eastbound lanes for several hours, causing major delays for travelers heading home from the holiday weekend, Colorado State Patrol spokesman Trooper Nate Reid said.
It’s unclear what caused the crash, which occurred about 12:40 p.m., but only one person reported minor injuries.
The semi-trailer landed on its side, blocking two lanes. The truck was carrying peaches and apples, which spilled onto the interstate.
Clean-up was delayed because in addition to removing the trailer, workers had to clear the area of fruit, Reid said.
The state patrol urges travelers to call 511 for up-to-the-minute road conditions.
