A motorcycle officer was taken to the hospital Monday night after he was rear-ended at a Denver intersection.

At 9:30 p.m., a Denver motorcycle officer was stopped at a red light at E. 16th Avenue and Sherman Street, said Detective John White, spokesman for the Denver Police Department.

The officer was facing westbound on E. 16th Avenue when the car behind him smashed into his motorcycle.

The officer was taken to Denver Health Medical Center for minor injuries, White said.

It was not known whether the officer was on duty.

The driver was cited with careless driving. Investigators do not believe drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
