A 34-year-old Golden woman died this weekend while climbing Mount Baker in Washington state.
The body of Sheryl Costello was found Sunday by rescue crews. Costello was descending the 10,781-foot peak Saturday with her boyfriend when she fell into a well-known hole in the snow that develops west of Heliotrope Ridge, the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office said.
Searchers found Costello’s body about 50 feet down the hole but have been unable to reach it because of extreme conditions.
